Sara + Jason lifestyle-session

You don't have to be engaged to have your photos done. Sara & Jason got married several years ago and they decided that they wanted to have a fun photo session done of them and Buddy. These were family photos but more like engagement photos. What a fun idea, after you've been married for a year or more have a lifestyle-session done again and to document your continued love.

Over the past year my style of shooting has transformed into what I now call  "storybook-shooting". What does that mean? I don't just take photos, I capture moments that tell a story; your story. These stories are then put into beautiful archival albums.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Corey

PS: As you can see these albums don't have to be only for weddings, get them of engagement/lifestyle sessions.

Fantasy Football - Never Again

I have officially decided that I won't play fantasy football anymore. Someone keep me accountable to that, please. I don't know why I do it cause every year I always regret it. I will admit that my team isn't the greatest but when the bench scores more points then the starters there is a serious issue. Maybe is just me. I'm a competitive person and I don't like to loose; FF does not help that at all. It's not only the loosing that I hate about it, it's the fact that I can't sit and enjoy a game without thinking about how this guys is doing or how that defense is doing and then getting upset when they aren't performing. That totally takes the enjoyment out of it for me. So today I decided that I will not play FF again.

On a good note, Thanksgiving was awesome. We had 2 turkey dinners plus all the leftovers. Good eating all around!

Corey

PS: This is probably good indication I could never be a head coach of a football team. Wouldn't that be fun though?!

Best of Weddings Winner by The Knot.com

Last week Friday late afternoon I got an unexpected phone call from The Knot.com!!! Yeah you read that right The Knot.com. They wanted to inform me and congratulate me on being a Best of Weddings 2010 Winner for the photography category in the state of WA. WOW!!! At first this didn't actually register in my head about how cool this is. Then it hit me during dinner. WOW again!
This wouldn't happen if my past brides (& grooms) hadn't voted for me. To be honest with you I had no idea this actually was going to happen. As I think more about this the cool thing is, it was done without my knowledge or me asking anyone to go vote for me. Each couple I work with my highest priority is them and their wedding day experience. I firmly believe that the experience they have on their wedding day is the most important part, which leads to capturing the most memorable moments and amazing photographs.
Look for the official announcement and launch on Jan. 22nd! It will be a new feature on The Knot.com.
Thanks to all my favorite brides who voted. I am honored to be on this list for 2010!
Corey
PS: I guess I'll be getting a plaque in the mail. I will be sure to post pics as soon as I get it!

Live them, Love them, Share them!

If you are still on the fence about whether or not to do family photos this year then maybe this video will help. I recently heard someone say that we could possibly be in the era of lost photographs. What does that mean? Well, where are all your digital photos? If you're like most people they are probably on your computer's HD waiting to someday be lost. We have to face the fact that printed pictures are becoming less and less a norm for us. We love to have them online to view, share on Facebook but the album on the bookshelf is empty. So as a photographer what can I do to help bring these memories off a HD and into your homes. Put them to music and a fun style slideshow that you can put in your DVD player and watch them over & over. Always on the go, you can put them on your iPod too. Your photos always with you, not hiding but ready for the world to see. Be proud of your photos/memories. Not just the fancy camera that took them or the terabyte hard drive they sit on.

All family sessions that I shoot get a video just like the one above. It's on DVD, it's in iPod ready form and it's online for you to put on Facebook/Blog/etc... This holiday season you can live your memories again with the loved ones around you.

Don't loose your photos to a machine! Live them, love them, share them!!

Corey

PS: If you love the look of these videos and want to do them for your own pictures you take. Head over here, save yourself some $$$ and begin making your own movies.

PPS: If you don't already have a place online to share your photos, sign up with SmugMug. They are the best.

I'm A Superhero's Side-kick

Yep that's right, I am a superhero! I have always wanted to be a superhero and last Saturday I was. Well I only got to be a Superhero's side-kick but that cool too. Especially since my superhero son was THE superhero. I think I know how Robin felt being Batman's side-kick. :) My Son was so excited about his superhero costume, which was homemade by my wife. Don't mistake him for one of the Incredibles, because wasn't one, he was Might Max. And I was Might Max's Super Side-kick!

We had a blast at our church's Trunk-or-Treat event. It was a great atmosphere for him to have fun with his friends, get candy, and play fun games. I loved watching him get excited about his bucket of candy. I had one of those moments, where I saw myself on the floor (just like he was) with wide eyes looking at what I got. Life is getting more and more exciting as he and his brother grow.

It was a super fun weekend. And I have my share of candy to eat too!

Corey

PS: Only one more month before the holidays are here. Get your family portraits done! Mention this post for a discount.

Merissa & Jay... wedding!

Take a minute to watch this before reading any further.....

Merissa & Jay, where to begin with their wedding?! It was magnificent, moving, heart-stopping, and those are only a handful of words to describe it. I was so excited for their wedding and it exceeded all my expectations. Beautiful church doors, small town theater with poka-dot doors, flashing lights on a police car, and a country road were some of the attractions for the day together. Merissa & Jay weren't afraid to be themselves in front of the camera for sure. It was one to remember!!!

Merissa & Jay, thank you for letting me join you for your magnificent day. You are awesome. Blessings to you both and your new chapter of life.

Corey

Yes I did get a police car pose for us too! The policeman parked his car and turned the lights on for us.

PS: I can't wait to put together their Storybook. It is going to be breath-taking. I will share for sure when it's done.

Welcome One Days Wages

I am proud to write about an amazing organization that launched today. Eugene & Minhee, who founded this organization are really good friends of ours. I'm excited about what they're doing & even more excited about partnering with them on many levels. Below's a note from Eugene about the launch. Please take the time to read it and also take part in the fight.
One Day's Wages - an international grassroots movement dedicated to ending extreme global poverty.  We are certainly not the first and thankfully, not the last...

Here are 5 simple ways you can help:

1.  Visit the website - onedayswages.org and create an account.
2.  Make a donation. Calculate your day's wages on the website or make another donation. You can choose to invest in one of the organizations/projects highlighted on the website. 100% of your donations (minus transaction costs) go directly to these projects.

3.  Be a FAN on Facebook: facebook.com/onedayswages
4.  Spread the word. Use the tools on our website (like Twitter) to spread the movement with your friends and network.
5.  Forward this email.

The numbers regarding extreme global poverty are overwhelming but there is some good news. There are already individuals and organizations around the world doing amazing work to fight extreme global poverty. We're not trying to re-invent the wheel but rather to collaborate and partner with others and inviting you to join this movement dedicated to ending extreme global poverty.

We know that the issues are very complex but it’s also very simple:  It shouldn’t be this way and doesn’t have to be this way. In our lifetime, we can end extreme global poverty.
As I write this I think about the cup of coffee next to me and how much it costs. What's disturbing about it is that we don't think about what a cup of coffee costs us, we need it in the morning to get going. At least I have something to get going for right? Please take the time to spread the word and join the fight. You won't regret it.

Corey

PS: If you want a good cup of coffee go to the Q Café, they give 10% back to outside causes.

Unreal...Miracle, I say so....

This is unreal. Yesterday I was working on editing last weeks wedding on my MBP. It was 1pm, I looked at my clock and it said it was 9pm. I thought that was strange how can that be. So I hit restart on the computer and it wouldn't reboot. I tried everything from disk utility to disk warrior...nothing. So I transferred all my data to my iMac late last night (could still mount it as a firewire drive). This morning I decided to try to repair it from the iMac and still nothing. I hit restart on the iMac hoping to try once more connecting the laptop to it. You won't believe it, the iMac wouldn't reboot now either. What?!!!! Both computers with a gray screen and spinning wheels.... done for sure.

I decided to reinstall the MBP because the little info it had on it was on the iMac and I would go from there. Sitting and watching the system reinstall I still couldn't believe it. Even at one point I thought the install froze. When the install had finished I input all my new info and was hopeful for the fresh start. When the OS booted up you won't believe what I was looking at..... all my files in the same place as before. What?!!! It make no sense. Everything should be gone but not the case. What's even more unreal, I just gambled and reinstalled the iMac and it just did the same thing!

Can your PC do that?! :)

Corey

PS: Have no fear I always have multiple backups of all my images.

The Nedelisky Family

Meet the Nedelisky family! A couple weekends ago my wife and I went down to spend time with her family to celebrate 4 family birthdays (all in the month of October). My sister-in-law asked me if I would do some family pics for them. My nephew's are so much fun to be around and they didn't disappoint me when they were in front of the camera. In a span of 45 mins I captured so many true loving family moments for them. I got the nicest email from my sister-in-law after I sent them to her.
i could not have gotten a better email today! ...this week, month....decade!  Thank you so much for your craft and expertise and your eye for love in families.  you rock!  simona
You don't see much portraits here on my site but that doesn't mean I don't do them. I love them because it families that share deep true love, like my wedding couples. So don't forget this is a great time of the year to get your family photos done for the Holiday Season. You know all those Xmas cards and perfect presents for friends & family. Be sure to give me a shout!!!

PS: The shot of the boys laying in the grass, yeah I was on my stomach to get that shot too!!!!

For The Perfect Shot

I'm in the process of editing the images from this past Saturday's wedding and came across this image Val (my 2nd shooter) captured of me. Yes that's right I am on the ground in the middle of a pretty busy street. I will put myself in any position to get the right photo. Merissa couldn't believe I actually did this! We had to document the sweet shoes they both were sporting. More amazing images to come soon...

PS: I didn't even get my black cloths dirty either!

jenny + ernie... wedding

I have been eagerly awaiting Jenny & Ernie's wedding since we hung out for their engagement pictures early this summer. The day was more than I had imagined it would be; it was breath-taking!!! Jenny was absolutely stunning, Ernie was Ernie (if you know him you know what I'm talking about) :), and their celebration was one to remember. They got Married at St. Joseph's church and partied at Shilshole Bay Beach Club, two beautiful venues. One if the things that I loved about how Jenny planned the day was she gave us lots of time to capture images of her & Ernie and their bridal party. Here's only a handful have those moments that were captured (more to come for sure)....

Jenny & Ernie, thank you for letting me share in such a special day in your lives!

Corey

PS: I love long veils and stretch limos!

Fishing with Peace

This past weekend I did what I grew up doing.... I went fishing!! I've lived in Seattle for 10 years and this is the first time I went out fishing. I can't believe I waited for so long. My father flew in from Denver for the weekend, so early Friday morning with my brother-in-laws, Mike & Kyle, we all hit the river. The photo above was the early morning light on THE spot. For 6 hours I was out in the water with fish jumping around me and peacefulness in the air. Catching fish after fish was awesome and the perfect pre-wedding relax day. I am going to have to make this a routine for sure.

Corey

PS: Stay tuned for the images I got the next day at Jenny & Ernie's wedding - Breathtaking!

greg + brittany... wedding

This past Saturday I had the honor of being a part of Greg & Brittany's wedding. The weather was a typical Seattle rainy day but we made the most of it and had a great time. The most beautiful images happen in the simplest of moments. Their wedding was so much focused on them & their love and sharing that with their closest family and friends.

Many blessings to you guys. Thank you for letting me share in your special day!

Corey

Yesterday had a little fun with the boys out in the backyard. We have to take advantage of the nice weather while it's still around for sure. This is the first photo of Katey & I in a long time. We seem to always take pics of the boys. I better work on that! :)

Shooting with Jim Garner

If you follow me on twitter you will know that this past weekend I had the opportunity to shoot with one of the coolest guys around, one of the top 10 wedding photographers, Jim Garner. When he asked me to shoot with him I was surprised and excited all at once. If there was one photographer in the industry that I have been following and feel like I connect with the most, it is Jim. One of the things that he really takes pride in is sharing his knowledge with young shooters (all shooter too) in the industry like myself. His recent website launches are goboda.com &  livegoboda.com which has tools to help shooters from shooting to editing to presenting wedding stories. I will first hand say that if you haven't picked up his training DVD Vol. 1, you should. He teaches you everything from shooting a storybook wedding to creating beautiful, award winning albums. If you are starting out or feel like you are up against a wall, go buy the DVD you won't be disappointed.

Unfortunately I have not images to share with you from this epic wedding we shoot. So be sure to check out his blog for the amazing wedding story we captured. The bride and groom were a blast to shoot. Their energy in front of the camera lead to tons of stellar images. This is one story you won't want to miss.

Stefan + Audrey... 7/11/09 Wedding

I love to write up a little blurb about how amazing each wedding I shoot is (as you know), but this time I am going to let Audrey right this post for me....
Corey,
I can't express how much I love my wedding pictures. You captured each beautiful moment and each emotion that I felt on my wedding day. I can't thank you enough for coming up to Lynden, on your own anniversary, to spend a day with Stefan and I. I'll treasure those photos forever, and I can't simply choose a favorite. You have an amazing gift, and I'm so blessed I get to keep a piece of it. Thank you for everything.
Audrey
Their wedding was so much fun and I too will remember the moments :)

Eric's Testimony

I was doing some updating to my Facebook Fan page and just saw this awesome testimony from Eric!
"Corey is freakin' awesome! It's amazing how God places certain people in your life. If my encounter on the plane with Corey isn't odd enough, Christy's cousin who lives in the Portland area, calls Christy a day before our interview with Corey and suggests Corey as a photographer (not knowing that we were interviewing him). All I have to say, God is great, and He has instilled a gift and passion of photography in Corey!" - Eric
Thanks Eric. You and Christy are so fun to be around. I can't wait for your wedding next week!!!!!

Working On Rebuilding

If you follow me on Twitter or are my friend on Facebook, you will know that last week I lost all my Databases on my server. So what does that mean... well I lost my entire blog. All the posts and photos on it were gone. Luckily my site was not hit nor was my image host. Rest assured brides I didn't loose any photos! I am currently working on rebuilding my site/blog into a blog-site. Please bear with me as this process is a little slower then expected since I am in the heart of wedding season. While I am rebuilding lets take a trip down memory lane... This is one of my favorite images from a couple years ago.

The Nicest Comment

The other day I got the nicest comments on my Facebook wall from one of my brides, who’s wedding I will be shooting later this summer. I am very humbled to received such a nice comment and it reminds me why I love this job so much.
“I just wanted to let you know that I had the e-pics printed for a wedding related project. There were so many amazing shots and I honestly had a difficult time deciding which ones to use. I am so grateful for you and for your gift in capturing such a momentous time in our lives. I will always look at those images to remind me of God’s promises to me and the start of a new beginning. God is super-awesome and you are awesome too! We can’t wait to share our big day with you! We are really looking forward to it ”
Remember today that God has amazing promises for all of us! Happy Sunday.

Greg & Abby: e-session

Where to begin with Abby and Greg…. I have known Abby for several years now and Greg I just got to know him. Abby sang on a worship team with my wife, then girl friend, in collage. I liked to refer to myself as the roadie for their group. Really it was only cause I had a big truck and I loved Katey that I was a part of the group but if it wasn’t for those times I would probably not know Abby. When they asked me to photograph their wedding I again was honored. I love photographing friends weddings because they already know my fun loving side and we have a blast together reminiscing about old times while creating new memories!

Ernie & Jenny: e-session

Ernie and Jenny are so awesome. We had such a blast hanging out for their engagement session. We hit up Pikes Place Market before it got to busy and found some nice little quiet spots to shoot some great photos. I first met with them back in December and was beyond excited to be there wedding photographer. They are going to have such a cool wedding with lots of traditional elements, which I have never shot before. Here are some fun moments we shared together, enjoy!

Be my everything

A couple of weeks ago I saw this video my friend Justin made that really resonated with me and my hopes for Hage Creative. As I am in the midst of a busy wedding season, this will be my constant prayer. I love what I do but I wouldn’t be able to do it without Him. Take 5 mins to watch this video. I hope you’re encouraged by it, humbled by it, moved by it in some way today.

Joseph + Erica: Alaska wedding

Their wedding was amazing. I am honored to have been a part of it. There were probably over 400 guest at the wedding; I would say that is a testament to their impact on people’s lives. So much laughter and joy surround both families. It was a true celebration of a miracle made in heaven. Thank you Joseph and Erica for letting me a part of your new chapter in life.

Joseph + Erica: Alaska e-session

Alaska!!! Yes that’s right I got to spend a week hanging out in Alaska for Joseph & Erica’s wedding. I have known Erica for 10 years now and when she called me back in January to tell me she was engaged I was so excited. I went up early so I could spend some time getting to know Captain Joseph of the United States Air Force. We spent a morning doing a little e-session and hanging out together. Joseph owns his own little plane and I tried so hard to get him to take me up in it but it didn’t happen. They are such the perfect, fun-loving, energetic, God fearing couple. So Cool, that’s all I can say.

Eric + Christy: e-session

About a year and a half ago I was on a plane headed to Denver for an engagement session with Ernie & Kim. It was a late night flight and I was planning on listening to music and sleeping, but the complete opposite happened. I talked with the guy next to me the entire 2.5 hours. I got to share with him that I was a wedding photographer, my story of how I got into it and my passion for it. Earlier this year I got an email from Eric, the guy who sat next to me on the plane, saying that he was engaged and that Christy & him wanted me to photograph their wedding this summer!!! He told Christy after they got in engaged “I already have our photographer!” How awesome is that! We had a blast together during their e-session and the wedding is going to be so much fun.

miércoles, 10 de junio de 2009

Justin + Amber: e-session

Justin and Amber were awesome to hangout with. They were super troopers and agreed to an early morning e-session. It was the perfect time to be down in Pioneer Square shooting. We probably walked a mile to all the different spots and even got an exclusive entry into the new Fire House museum. From the brick walkways of Occidental Square to a guest appearance of Baby 3 in an alley, it was an all around fun time. I hope Baby 3 will make a guest appearance on the wedding day!!!

Graham + Ashley: E-Session

Graham and Ashley were so much fun to hanging out with. It was a rare early morning e-session that I have done but the weather was amazing and the Ballard Locks were the perfect place to be. The smells of fish and the boats moving around us made for a great atmosphere. After the locks we headed over to Mulleady’s Pub where they had gotten engaged. The Pub let us come in and shoot inside, but what was even cooler was they hooked us up with some drinks

Jay + Merissa: E-session

Where do I begin this post, cause it has to be a good one. I was informed by Merissa that she is one of my blog followers (awesome) who loves the things I write about each of my sessions and that she couldn’t wait to see what I would write about her & Jay. Talk about pressure even before the session was over! Just kidding, I love writing about our time together and all the fun experiences we have together. Jay & Merissa were brave enough to “weather” the rain that decided to join us. We had a blast hiding from the rain in the library and under mom’s umbrella to dancing in the rain on the bricks of Red Square. Their wedding is going to be so much fun, I can’t wait!!!!!

Jefferson + Tracy: Wedding

The second wedding I shot this year was absolutely amazing. Tracy and Jefferson had a beautiful wedding and they were stunning together. Tracy did such an amazing job putting it all together, even despite having to get a new dress a month before the wedding (a story for another time if you want to hear it). Kate from Salon GEM and Shannon from Blush did an incredible job on Tracy’s hair and makeup. From Bellevue to the U-District to Downtown, what a story to be apart of!

What I’ve been up to…

The past month has been a really busy one. So much has been going on between family, work and play. As you can see one of the bigger things that has taken place is a fresh new look for my blog!!! My old blog with blogspot has served me well (all old posts will still be there) but as business and life are moving forward my blog needed to. There are a lot of features that my new blog will be able to do. One of the biggest reasons for moving my blog is Branding. As my brand image gets more and more refined it is crucial that everything is consistent, even my blog URL plays a key role. So welcome to the fresh look!!!

Besides giving the blog a new look I have been out shoot several engagement shoots. Stefan and Audrey were so much fun to shoot. I am excited for there wedding this summer up in beautiful Lynden WA. One fun fact about them is that they will share the same anniversary date as my wife and I.

Tracy and Jefferson were another amazing couple I got to spend time with this past month. There wedding is actually coming up this coming Saturday and I am super excited for it. We braved a beautiful, busy Saturday afternoon together at Pike’s Place Market. They even introduced me to Piroshky.

And I also shoot my first wedding of the year at the end of last month. Seth & Leanne were so much fun to be with on there special day. They had a beautiful intimate wedding.  Leanne was brave enough to got out in 40 degree weather and rain got get some of these shots below.

Of course I can’t not post about spending lots of time with my family. The boys are growing so fast and there are days where I just don’t want to do anything but be with them. It’s amazing how fast time flies. This next week we will be celebrating Ez’s 2nd birthday and Siah is already 5 months old.

A Life Celebrated

Today I write with a broken heart. My Grandfather passed away this morning after a life of 94 years. To this day he took care of my Grandma in their home, even this morning he brought her tea and juice in bed. That's the life he lived, always putting others before himself and always taking genuine interest in all. He leaves a legacy not only here in the States but over seas in his home of Amsterdam. So even among the sadness, I rejoice in knowing that he is in the place he was created to be.

To a man of great Faith who is Home now with his Almighty Creator, Thank You for the life you lived, the lessons you taught and the memories you left behind. You will never be forgotten. I love you and look forward to the day we will see each other again.

Roller-Coaster Ride

This past week was amazingly emotional for me. If you read my post below, last weekend was eventful with Ez having a temperature of 103, at one point, and the feeling of helplessness for my 22 month old. Hope grew though with Monday being MLK Day and Tuesday an amazing day in History, plus Tues. was my wife's birthday. Tuesday morning rolled around and I was excited to celebrate my wife's birthday with her and the boys as well as witness history in the works. Then the emotions go thrown an unexpected twist as I got news that a friend and boss for many years lost his brother unexpectedly that morning, at the age of 47. I don't know how to put it into words the feeling I was going through; joy and pain and excitement. How can all three of those be felt at one time.

Thursday I took the family for a day trip to Portland for yet another emotional ride. Katey's grandma had past away last week and we went down for the memorial service. Being with extended family was what we needed. The memorial service was amazing and encouraging to know the peace of our Savior rest right here with us. Even in a time of mourning we could rejoice in the life Grandma had lived and the memories she left us.

So today starts a new week of hopefully more joy then pain, more laughs then tears.

Cooling Down

Today was quite an interesting day. The morning started off with a great rock out session, to Delirious, with Ez playing the air guitar and me on the air drums. After his morning nap we decided to run some errands cause the sun was out and this was our first Saturday this year to be all together with no agenda. First stop was the car wash, which we thought Ez would like a lot but he just didn't seem himself. When we got to our first destination and the boys were in the shopping cart, Ez started shaking really bad. No errands today, we headed straight back home where Ez and I spent the afternoon sitting watching Nemo.

The hardest thing as a father/parent is to see your baby not wanting anything and in a daze. What can you do, you feel helpless. Katey and I have really been fortunate with the boys that they haven't really gotten that sick. So this kind of throw us for a loop and so unexpected. Now as he sleeps we hope that it won't be a long night for us but if need be I would miss every minute of sleep to be at his side.

Morning Glory

Morning Glory, originally uploaded by Hage Creative.
This was yesterdays' morning sun rise over the city. I promise I still
had my eye's on the road while I was driving :)

Not So New Years Resolution

Today is Jan. 14th and this is the first time I have gotten to my blog this year. At the end of last year, as most people probably do, I started coming up with a list of things that I would put on my New Year's Resolution list. Well at the top of the list I put, "Blog on a Regular basis". Haha.... I didn't follow through with that on very well did I? I promise I am going to work on it.What I have learned from my own experience and friends around me is that Blogs are a very powerful in all sorts of ways. For me and my business it is a way for me to convey to the world who I am, show case my work for all to see and engage in dialogue with people. I know you're probably thinking, duh Corey that's the point of a blog. But take a second to really think about that.... a way to convey who I am. In the wedding photography industry I get asked a lot, what makes you different then from all the others in your area. The answer I always give them is, me. No one can replicate me and the experience you have with me. Now you can see why my blog is one of the things I am really going to work on this year. To the faithful that have not stopped subscribing to it, thank you. 2009 the year of many blog posts :)
